Civil Society plays an increasingly important role in international human and social welfare. The most important prerequisite for the development of the NGO sector is a steady level of trust and engagement from society. This public trust and engagement is based the organization’s level of accountability.
Charity Star is an independent nonprofit organization working to establish an international standard for NGO accountability. We believe in an open society where access to information is key in building trust and engagement.

It will be overseen by a steering group led by Trevor Pears, executive chair of the foundation
A national campaign led by the Pears Foundation to encourage people to give more time, money and energy to charity will be launched in spring 2012.
The Give More campaign was first discussed in the Philanthropy Review, a sector-led inquiry into philanthropy and giving which published its ‘call to action’ in June. It suggested a national campaign to celebrate giving and encourage people to give more.
The campaign will last for one year and has initially been developed by the grant-maker the Pears Foundation, which will fund it. It will be led by a steering group, chaired by Trevor Pears, the foundation’s executive chair.
A statement about the campaign on behalf of the steering group said it was focused on continuing to recruit support from other individuals and organisations, and on developing plans for marketing and promoting the campaign.
A spokeswoman for the Give More campaign said no further details about its budget or the specific activities it would involve were yet available because the programme was still in its planning stage.
Pears said that because need in communities was increasing and resources were decreasing, society’s natural response was to look to the state, but it was unable to respond to all of the issues.
“Give More is an attempt to tap into the passion people in the UK have for their communities and good causes,” he said. “It will encourage as many of us as possible to make a pledge to give more money, time or energy to support these charities and community groups that are working hard to deal with the issues we’re all facing.”
